About Us
Our names are Gail Ham and Phil McConnell and we live in Dartmouth. Gail is a member of the Dartmouth History Research Group and contributed to the Group's exhibition commemorating the outbreak of the First World War. She is responsible for the content of the website. Phil has designed the website and has taken the photographs (other than those freely available from open sources).
At the top of each page is a close-up of poppies that we took during a visit to the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London, marking the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. The installation features 888,246 poppies - one for each British fatality in the First World War. The rotating banners with names below this image are constructed from photographs of the Dartmouth War Memorial and the memorial boards in St Saviour's and St Petrox churches.
The website is supported entirely by us. We do not receive funding or sponsorship from anyone and we do not carry advertising.
Our research process and methodology is discussed on a separate page.
